We’ve talked about the many great work opportunities within TranscribeMe’s crowd for people in the USA – about 40% of our 8,000-strong crowd lives in North America. But our platform is also unique in the sense that it offers a work environment that allows people who have stopped searching for jobs to participate in the workforce. How – let’s look at a few examples. Many people with disabilities require or prefer remote job opportunities because a commute is either unfeasible or much more difficult for them than others. New parents who have quit their full time jobs to be at more…
On a prior blog post, we talked about how TranscribeMe represents a work platform for the future and in describing our vision, we often get asked how we differ from websites such as oDesk. Although at first glance, our mission and layout appears to be the same, we actually differ in many ways. Firstly, oDesk workers sign up and list their work experience, as well as their rates for different projects. Individual companies can seek them out or they can apply for jobs. By comparison, TranscribeMe‘s crowd is recruited based on their existing skills or knowledge, but they also have the more…
We’ve been talking a lot about the benefits of working with TranscribeMe, and why our work platform represents the future. Although we discussed the diversity of our crowd members, in a previous blog post, today we’d like to focus on the types of work opportunities different members of our crowd might have. Our work is micro-tasked which means that segments of audio are split into 15-second chunks that can be worked on simultaneously. This means that as long as someone speaks English or any of our other language offerings fluently can transcribe audio regardless of their education levels. Thus, a more…
Bill Bennett with Digitl NZ Recently spoke with Alexei and I about the new TranscribeMe Livescribe partnership. We’re excited that the partnership is getting this good press, and even more excited by the scope of our joint offering. By combining our company offerings, we’re enabling a large set of audio to become exponentially more useful – by making its content searchable and shareable in digital format on the Evernote platform. The TranscribeMe customer portal accepts various types of audio files, but can sometimes have a hard time uploading files if they are excessively large. A large file would be somewhere closer to the 320 but maximum. When you compress a file, it would probably be 128 bits or below. Because of this, some of our customers have asked how they can compress their files in order to upload them. First, if your file is excessively large, or you have multiple files to upload, you can sync your Dropbox with the TranscribeMe customer portal. This allows the portal to grab the more…
TranscribeMe’s crowd-based approach to service makes it the ideal place for work and because of our unique and successful business model, envision this approach as the way of the future. Our crowd-as-a-service-platform offers flexibility and growth for its crowd and customers alike. Crowd-members live and work throughout the world and their backgrounds are equally as diverse. They speak a multitude of languages and are able to work full-time whenever they want from wherever they want. Our work stems from our use of proprietary technology to micro-task jobs, which in our current state, entails slicing audio into 15-second chunks. These are more…
As a Livescribe user, you’re probably familiar with uploading your audio to Evernote. Now with the new Livescribe/TranscribeMe partnership, you can submit that note for speech-to-text processing. If you have the Livescribe Sky Smartpen, then your audio will be automatically uploaded and is ready for transcription as is. If you have an Echo or Pulse Smartpen, in order to successfully submit for transcription, you’ll need to be sure to export your pencast as a Pencast PDF or .m4a file. Here is an image of how you can export files in these formats: After creating the audio file in Evernote, simply more…

As much as technology has evolved in the last few years, and even with the advancements in speech recognition software, transcription still requires human review and intervention to assure close to 100% accuracy. Although lower accuracy may be an adequate tradeoff for immediate results, the majority of people who use transcription professionally require publishing-ready transcripts with minimal review time in order to justify the expense. In order to get around this hurdle, TranscribeMe uses a hybrid approach that assures quicker turnaround time and prices than human transcription alone, as well as higher accuracy than speech processing alone in one package. more…
