When did you get into transcription?
I sort of fell into transcribing. I had just had my daughter and needed something to keep my brain from going to mush! I looked around and did some research for online work I could do at home.
I wanted the flexibility to be able to look after my baby but be able to feel that I was contributing to the household finances. I also didn’t want to have baby-brain! I found TranscribeMe, I signed up and have been here ever since.
What does your typical work environment look like, and what else do you like to do?
I work from my dining table. I have my laptop, foot pedal, headphones and a view to the sea. This way I can work and look out and have a break at the same time – especially if there’s a tricky file, I can usually get through it if I look out at the view. You normally wouldn’t get that when working from an office in town somewhere.
When not transcribing I like to walk in the woods near my home with my family and dog. I also have a multitude of animals that are always needing something done.
What’s your favorite tip to get the job done?
I didn’t think that headphones mattered when I first started but as I began to get better, I bought myself some decent headphone – the difference in quality and sound was amazing. Also make sure you don’t sit looking at the computer for too long – take a break!
What is your favorite part about being a part of TranscribeMe?
I love being to able to do as little or as much as I want. I am able to do things with my daughter and work at the same time. I also love that you are able to grow within yourself. I have gone from being a transcriber to working on specialized teams and expanding my skill set in a way I didn’t know I could!
